UNDERSTAND THE WORK
By TaskBull AIJobs · Updated October 30, 2026
AI governance connects organizational decisions with the systems people build and use. Work can include reviewing use cases, identifying risks, documenting ownership and tracking actions across a program. Teams may collaborate with engineering, privacy, legal and business functions. The practical question is how a proposed use is assessed and monitored over time, rather than whether a policy document exists.
AI governance analyst, manager and responsible AI titles can involve different levels of ownership. Some positions emphasize technical evaluation; others need program management, risk assessment or stakeholder coordination. A manager vacancy requiring several years of relevant experience should not be treated as an entry-level route. Compare the stated responsibilities with evidence from your own technical or transferable work.
Frameworks can help organize questions, evidence and responsibilities. NIST’s AI Risk Management Framework is one voluntary reference; it is not a universal legal requirement. For a portfolio exercise, describe a bounded AI use case, its stakeholders, possible failures and a review process. Explain assumptions and follow-up actions. Avoid claiming that a checklist alone establishes legal compliance or eliminates risk.
Before applying, distinguish governance delivery from hands-on security or model research. Ask which functions own decisions and how the team measures progress. Remote roles can list particular Canadian or US locations, and regulated or customer-facing work may have additional requirements. Confirm compensation, permitted working locations and authorization directly with the employer.

It depends on the role. Technical evaluation positions can require programming; program and risk roles may emphasize other skills. Read the actual qualifications instead of assuming every governance job is coding-free.
They can collaborate, but governance often centers on organizational processes, ownership and risk decisions. Safety engineering can build technical tools, safeguards and evaluations. Compare the scope of each vacancy.
